ALAMEDA COUNTY, CALIFORNIA CLERK OF COURT OFFICE

The Clerk of Court is the official record keeper of the courthouse. The clerk is responsible for filing judicial papers with the court, collecting filing fees, overseeing courtrooms and court schedules, making the local court rules known, and assisting with finding pro-bono lawyers.

The Clerk of Court does not only oversee criminal cases, the clerk is responsible for assisting with civil courts, small claims courts, family law, such as divorces and child custody, probate courts, traffic courts, and other collaborative courts, such as drug court, family treatment court, reentry court, and Veterans treatment court.

The Clerk of Court is an elected official who is a servant to the public.

RECORDS SEARCH AND PUBLIC RECORD REQUESTS

Public records are made accessible by the Alameda County Clerk’s Office. Official public records can be searched online using the clerk’s database. Birth, death, and marriage certificates, fictitious business names, deeds, liens, and current CEQA filings can all be searched online.

Criminal and judicial records can be accessed through the Alameda County Clerk of Court. The public can view non-confidential criminal case documents in person, or may submit a request for copies online via the Court’s Public Records Web Portal for Criminal Record Requests. To access the judicial record request system, the first and last name of the defendant, the docket or case number, the defendant’s date of birth and arrest date, or the defendant’s date of conviction is needed.
