The Clerk of Court is an elected official established according to the Florida Constitution for the purpose of serving the citizens of each county as a public trustee. As Clerk, they serve as the keeper of court records, documenting the members of the community’s lives from birth to death. The Clerk’s office performs more than 1,000 different constitutional and statutory functions or duties, representing the broadest and most diverse mantle of responsibility of any locally elected official.

OKALOOSA COUNTY, FLORIDA COUNTY CLERK/RECORDER DATABASE

Duties of the County Clerk:

Serving as clerk, clerk of court, comptroller, and recorder for the county

Acts as Accountant and Auditor to the Board of County Commissioners

Employs skilled personnel and provides customer service, who assists the public with locating and receiving public records

Issues marriage licenses, administered all oaths and affirmations as well as processing and filing divorce records from the court

Files records regarding conveyance of land, foreclosures, and deed records

Files and maintains records regarding military discharges

Issues passports and allows eFiling services

Maintains judicial court records

Files and maintains vital statistics, including birth and death certificates for births and deaths in the county

Ensures records are preserved securely and in an archival manner and easily accessible to the public

Collects fines, fees, and charges due for either current or past obligations and record requests

Carries out elections for the county, including following procedures for registering voters, following procedures relating to the official ballot, and working with the executive committees of political parties in nomination

Provides information for jury service, and is responsible for choosing jury members
