Every county has a clerk of court for their circuit courts. The clerk of court is an elected official who serves a 6 year term. The clerk is responsible for filing and maintaining all records pertaining to the judicial court. In addition to overseeing official court records, the clerk is responsible for attending juries in the courtroom. The clerk handpicks members of the jury and confirms oaths and affirmations. The clerk is considered a highly respected member of the judicial system.

FULTON COUNTY, KENTUCKY COUNTY CLERK/RECORDER DATABASE

Duties of the County Clerk:

Files vehicle and boat registrations and renewals, processes applications for car and boat titles,vehicle transfers, and provides permits and tags for motor vehicles

Collects delinquent taxes for the county and prepares and prints property tax bills

Registers birth and death certificates for the county

Issues marriage licenses and performs marriage ceremonies

Issues fishing and hunting licenses

Files voter registrations, oversees county elections, tallies votes, and makes the results easily available

Records and indexes and records pertaining to land, such as deeds, mortgages, mortgage releases, and assignments

Records wills for members of the county

Provides notary public services to the county

RECORDS SEARCH AND PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST

The state of Kentucky provides a free database to search judicial court records. Records from all counties can be accessed. The name on the record or the case number is needed to make a search.

Land, deed, and property records can be searched online using the state’s 3rd party provider called KLR. The records can be searched using the name on the document, the parcel number, or the address of the property.

For all other records, a record request form can be submitted to the clerk’s office. The state’s attorney general provides a generic form for download. The form requires information on the record being requested and the requester’s contact information. Once the form is completed it can be submitted in person, by mail, or fax.
