Clerk of courts are elected officials of the court who serve a 6 year term. They are responsible for the custody, control, and safe storage of all judicial records associated with circuit and district courts. In addition to storing records, the clerk is responsible for all circuit criminal, circuit civil, district civil, small claims, juvenile adoption, probate, traffic, misdemeanor, felony, and mental health cases as well as issuing drivers licenses, identification cards and jury reporting.

Public Judicial Court Records are provided by the state. The state provides a free database to search for case information. Cases can be searched by the name on the document, the document number, or the case number. Records from all counties in the state are available for search.

To obtain other records that are filed with the clerk’s office, a record request form can be submitted. A generic form is available for download. The form must include a detailed description of the record being requested and the requester’s contact information. Once the form is completed, it can be submitted in person, by mail, or fax.
