Every county has a clerk of court for their circuit courts. The clerk of court is an elected official who serves a 6 year term. The clerk is responsible for filing and maintaining all records pertaining to the judicial court. In addition to overseeing official court records, the clerk is responsible for attending juries in the courtroom. The clerk handpicks members of the jury and confirms oaths and affirmations. The clerk is considered a highly respected member of the judicial system.

MARION COUNTY, KENTUCKY COUNTY CLERK/RECORDER DATABASE

Duties of the County Clerk:

Files vehicle registrations, title transfers, and renewals

Processes first time or out of state title and registrations for motor vehicles

Issues regular and customized license plates, permits, and tags

Records land, deed, mortgage, lien, and plat records

Files corporate records and wills

Files voter registrations, oversees county elections, and makes election results accessible to the county

Issues marriage licenses, hunting and fishing licenses, and hunting and fishing permits

Processes bail bonds for the county jail

Acts as the tax collector for the county

Processes payments for services rendered

RECORDS SEARCH AND PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST

The state of Kentucky provides a free database to search judicial court records. Records from all counties can be accessed. The name on the record or the case number is needed to make a search.

Land, deed, and other public records can be searched online using the database called KLR. An account is needed to make a search. There is a fee to make an account through the database.

To obtain records filed by the county clerk, a record request form can be submitted. The Marion County Clerk’s Office requires that open records requests are submitted using the appropriate form. The Attorney General’s Office has produced a general form that can be downloaded and printed. Once the form is completed it can be submitted to the following:
