The Circuit Clerk is responsible for managing the records of Circuit and District courts. Circuit court clerks receive lawsuits and court documents, record legal documents, provide legal documents and other legal materials, are present during trials, schedule juries, receive and disburse money, maintain the jury system, administer oaths, handle affidavits, and issue driver licenses, permits and non-driver identification cards.

WASHINGTON COUNTY, KENTUCKY COUNTY CLERK/RECORDER DATABASE

Duties of the County Clerk:

Records public records including but not limited to name changes, mechanics liens, powers of attorney, wills, corporations, tax liens, military discharges, trademarks, assignments, releases, marriage certificates, birth certificates, death certificates

Files records pertaining to land, such as deeds and mortgages and utilizes an online platform to allow the public to search for these records

Issues voter registration cards, organizes the county elections and voting locations

Uses a database to list all delinquent taxes and allows users to pay online

Registers vehicles in the county, transfers titles and issues tags

RECORDS SEARCH AND PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST

The state of Kentucky provides a free database to search judicial court records. Records from all counties can be accessed. The name on the record or the case number is needed to make a search.

Records filed with the county clerk’s office can be viewed or obtained by following their open record policy and submitting a record request in writing. The county requires the public to use the record request form they provide on their website. The form can be downloaded and printed. Once the form is completed, it can be submitted in person, by mail, fax, or email. Once the form is received, the clerk has 5 business days to respond to the request.
