IONIA COUNTY, MICHIGAN CLERK OF COURT OFFICE

The clerk of court is the official record keeper for the court. As Clerk of the Court, the clerk opens, maintains, tracks and stores the records for all cases filed in the Circuit Court, the Judicial Court, County Probate and Family Courts. Duties include providing for the safety, security, and maintenance of all official court records; collecting and filing, copy, and criminal costs/fees/assessments; and having deputy clerks attend hearings and trials to support the Court in fulfilling its judicial responsibilities. The Clerk of Court is an elected official who serves a 4 year term.

Duties of the County Clerk:

Responsible for keeping records of births and deaths

Serves as the Clerk of the Board of Commissioners, the Board of Canvassers, and the Circuit Court

Member of the Plat Board and Election Commission

Serving as the chief election official in the County. As such, the Clerk administers all election functions required by law

RECORDS SEARCH AND PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST

Public records such as births, deaths, DBAs, and marriages can be requested through the county clerk’s office. Birth and death records and police reports can be ordered online using the clerk’s database. The database also allows the public to search for deeds and mortgages.

For all other records, a FOIA record request form can be submitted. A detailed description of the record being requested and the requester’s contact information is needed.
