The clerk of court is the official record keeper for the court. As Clerk of the Court, the clerk opens, maintains, tracks and stores the records for all cases filed in the Circuit Court, the Judicial Court, County Probate and Family Courts. Duties include providing for the safety, security, and maintenance of all official court records; collecting and filing, copy, and criminal costs/fees/assessments; and having deputy clerks attend hearings and trials to support the Court in fulfilling its judicial responsibilities. The Clerk of Court is an elected official who serves a 4 year term.

Duties of the County Clerk:

Responsible for keeping records of births and deaths

Filing assumed names and co-partnerships

Issuing and filing marriage licenses

Processes concealed pistol licenses and notary applications

Serving as the chief election official in the County. As such, the Clerk administers all election functions required by law

Accepts and processes fines, filing fees, fees for copies of records, and others

RECORDS SEARCH AND PUBLIC RECORDS REQUEST

Birth, death, marriage, and judicial records can be obtained through the county clerk’s office. These records can be obtained by submitting an application in person, by mail, or email. There are fees for these records.

For all other records, a FOIA record request can be submitted. FOIA requests must be submitted in writing. A request form is available for download. A detailed description of the record being requested and the requester’s contact information is needed.
